Engagement Session in Seattle – Part 2

Earlier this year we travelled to Seattle, Washington for Melisa & Jon’s Engagement Session. We have posted a few pictures before the busy wedding season began earlier this year: Engagement Session in Seattle – Part 1 We have just photographed their wedding recently and was greeted by this wonderful display of their engagement photos at their reception!

This really brought back some wonderful memories of our day spent together in Seattle. It was SO much fun! We also learned that our metal camera equipment can quickly turn into blocks of ice in just a few short minutes in the cold. (ouch on our bare hands!)

We spent a wonderful weekend with our friends – Mayu, Tony and their 10-month old baby, Mimi. M&T have been our good friends for a long time and we wanted to do something special for them. It’s amazing to be able to document such precious moments in life. We still remember the day we photographed their wedding and the day we visited the newborn baby at the hospital. And, now we have the opportunity to watch little Mimi grow up. Check out a sample slideshow of a few pictures we’ve taken! We are really looking forward to Mimi’s first birthday party in January!! Kyler and Grace are amazing! I had no idea where to start looking because there are so many photographers out there and a common regret I hear from people who got married is that they wished they had better pictures or more pictures taken since this is all you have to remember your special day. I was lucky enough to find Kai-Photo on Facebook since my friends are fans. Grace is so fast at responding to any of your inquiries and Kyler meets with you for free to discuss what you had in mind to see if this is what you had in mind. I loved their photos at first sight. Their pictures are one of a kind and it reminds me very much of a fairy tale album since they take mostly candid pictures. I got bored looking through other photographers work because it was traditional with the same lighting or backgrounds so I didn’t think I would find a photographer that met my standards. I recently reviewed all of my photos taken to choose my album and the angles and lighting is beautiful. They captured everything I was hoping for out of my wedding. I would recommend looking on their website to see some poses you like that they’ve done before. But you don’t have to worry because Kai-Photo will capture everything you want in your special day. We are so happy with the photos!!!
Price is very reasonable. Compare yourself to others. Customer service is the best. They don’t tell you what to do but instead get to know you and work with your schedule.
I hope all the brides to be out there are lucky enough to find Kai-Photo too.

We had such an amazing time photographing R&K’s engagement session at Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas! It was our first time going there and we definitely want to go back again for a hike! It was such a nice change of scenery for us. We ended our photo session at the famous “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign. What a fun day!

Last week, we were very lucky to have photographed N&C’s wedding at the Revere Golf Club in Las Vegas. Their wedding was absolutely beautiful and it is always fun to be able to travel and photograph at different locations. After the wedding, we decided to do an After Shoot/Trash the Dress photo session for them on the famous Las Vegas strip. It turned out to be one of the the most memorable photo shoots we have done! It was a beautiful wedding at the Loulu Palm Estate located on the North Shore of Oahu. It rained toward the end of the wedding ceremony but it didn’t affect the beautiful atmosphere of the wedding at all! Whats going on with the boys???

I have always wanted to share this with our readers, as this is a tradition that somehow never came to the local Hawaii Chinese culture. It is a tradition to have “pre-wedding games” with the bridal parties and close friends the morning of the wedding.

The bride is separated from the groom (usually locked in a room) and the groom needs to complete various tasks assigned by the girls in order to reach his bride. The tasks are usually difficult and often embarrassing. The funniest I have seen (from one of my friends’ wedding) was when the boys had to wear the girls shoes (HIGH HEELS!) and walked around the hotel lobby. The groom also had to find 5 random strangers and read his vows to them…

Luckily for all the Chinese grooms in Hawaii, this tradition has never really made it here! Or at least, I haven’t seen it done at any of the local Chinese weddings!

Photography Timeline — A general Guide

Having a detailed time line for your wedding day will help things to run more smoothly and insure that all of the events that are important to you are photographed within the photography coverage.

The following guide is the recommended time to allocate for your photography time line.

Getting Ready 60–90 minutes
“Getting Ready” images will document the process of the bride & groom getting ready for the wedding. This is often the unseen part of your wedding day and they are special moments that are often overlooked. We will get detailed images of your accessories (rings, bouquet, garter, wedding dress, etc) as well as the finishing touches of the hair & make up applications.

Ceremony 1 –2 hours
Ceremony includes the actual Ceremony (30-60 minutes), Family Pictures (20-30 minutes), Wedding Party Pictures (20-30 minutes) and the remaining time for a photo session with the Bride & Groom around the ceremony site.

Photo Session 30–60 minutes
Many couples would like to have an off-site photo session with just the bride & groom or with the entire bridal party.

Reception 3–4 hours
Some important parts of the reception program to be documented are: First Dance, Father-daughter Dance, Cake Cutting, Bouquet Toss, Garter Toss, and your guests enjoying the party in general. We will be sure to capture some candid moments and also details of the reception decor. (favors, centerpiece, etc)

Transportation
Please also keep in mind the transportation times between locations. If you are having a limo, we recommend having a space for our photographer(s) to ride with you. We want to be with the bride & groom as much as possible so we can document every moment of your wedding day!

Please keep in mind that each wedding is different and the time needed may vary. Please feel free to call/email us with any questions or concerns. We hope that this will help our readers with their wedding day!

DJ Troy Michael gave us this brilliant idea of a fun game called a “shoe game!” The bride & groom will sit back to back, with one shoe from each other in their hands. While the DJ (or your emcee) read off a list of trivial questions about the bride & groom such as: “who is a better cook?”, the bride and groom will answer by raising up the corresponding shoe.
It is not only a fun, crowd pleasing game – but a fun great way for your guests to get to know about you!

American Cancer Society: Relay for Life @ Magic Island

Our crew spent our Saturday night at Magic Island for the American Cancer Society: Relay for Life event. The event started at 7pm and lasted until 7am on the following day. We only stayed there until 1am and we had some of the most memorable experience in our lifetime. We were deeply touched by the people and events that night. In fact, many of these photographs were taken in tears while loved ones were being remembered.

We were very honored to be able to be a part of such a great event for the community.

This was our first time photographing at the Prince Kuhio Hotel since they have renovated. The hotel has a total new, modern look. The reception party was decorated with black table linen – a new trend that is now very popular in the mainland! We thought it worked very well with the bright and colorful ballroom interior design. 02.29.2008 – A very special day

We were fortunate to celebrate a very special date that only comes around once every 4 years with Lori & Mike. Their wedding & reception was at the Hawaii State Art Museum, right in the middle of downtown Honolulu. It was our first time doing a wedding there and we were blown away by the beautiful architecture complimented by an amazing display of floral arrangements by our friends at Rainforest in Kilohana Sq. Studio Red was also there to help document the day in video. One of the highlights of the day was the couple and wedding party marching through Downtown Honolulu on a Friday afternoon. Everyone at the wedding had a blast, and so did we.

“Wow! I was scared or pictures wouldn’t be that great because our beachside wedding not only got rained on but was incredibly windy. Boy was I wrong! Kyler not only made everyone look great despite being wet and hair blowing everywhere, but he also turned the weather into an advantage. the colors of the sky and ocean turned out beautiful!!! Great shots of everyone, the scenery, and incredible creativity! WE are so pleased with the photos. And the online gallery is great, people that couldn’t make it to the wedding were able to feel like they were there, being able to see the pictures so soon after the wedding. Kyler stayed later than asked and took way more pictures than promised! the enlargement gift was fantastic, a great suprise, and our proof book is so great for the coffee table! We couldn’t have asked for a better photography experience. Many many mahalos!!!!”

We got a phone call today from a couple who just recently got married in Hawaii. They were recommended by the concierge of the hotel and wanted us to do a photo session at magic island. They were really fun to work with!

It was our first time shooting above the Honolulu city scape. What a wonderful atmosphere! The bride was hiding in the car when we first arrived, and our photographer caught a wonderful moment of her as she took a peek to see what’s going on outside! It was a fun wedding with a great crowd. We actually brought 2 trainees to this wedding – one on photo and the other on video. Both trainees got wonderful images and footage!
