Engagement & Post Wedding Sessions

Engagement sessions are more than just having great photos before your big day.  They give you a chance to get to know your photographer and also gives them the chance to get to know the both of you - your personalities, how well you interact with other and the types of poses that may or may not work well for you.  The session also allows you to be more comfortable in front of the camera on the wedding day, which can help the day run smoother.

Photos from the session can be used for save the dates, invitations, slide shows and enlargements.  Once you see how easy it is and how amazing you look in your engagement photos, it will only make the anticipation for the big day even greater.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should we schedule our engagement session?
If you are planning to use the photos for save the date cards or invitations, then you'll want to schedule your session as soon as possible.  If you plan on using the photos at your wedding (canvas enlargement, modern gallery block, slide show, etc.), then try to schedule your session at least 2 months before your wedding day.  Weekday sessions are usually recommended since most locations are less crowded on weekdays.

Where should we do it at?
We recommend choosing a location that is special or meaningful to the both of you. Some possible locations could be where you first met, or where you got engaged.  Or maybe you have a favorite spot or activity that you both love.  Do you have exclusive access to somewhere special?  Be creative and be original!  If you need some suggestions, we can always make some recommendations for you.

What should we wear?
The session can be as formal or casual as you want it to be. Choose an outfit that you love and feel comfortable in and make sure that your outfits not only compliment each other, but represent each of you.  Generally, long pants and collared shirts work well for Guys and a dresses are a good choice for girls.  Guys can go with jeans for a more casual look or slacks for something more formal.  Girls can use a short or long dress for casual / formal.  With the extended session, many couples choose to have two different outfits for their session so you can have something formal AND fun. Please do not wear sunglasses before your session so your eyes can adjust to the natural day light.

Can we bring props?
Yes, of course!  You are welcome to bring and use any props in your engagement session but they should fit the theme of your wedding or location of the session.  If you bring a prop but don’t really know what to do with it or how you might want to use in your photos, it could be awkward.  Some common "props" that have been included are: Pets, banners, picture frames,  wooden "&" sign, wooden initials, save the date signs, chalk boards, matching outfits, etc.

What can we expect the session to be like?
Our goal for the session is for you to have fun hanging out with your fiancee, while we document the fun and spontaneous interactions between the two of you.  We are happy to provide suggestions for poses and scenic spots that will photograph well so you have nothing to worry about.  Think of it like being on a date - just relax, have fun and let us do the rest.  You are welcome to bring and use any types of props for the session as well to make it a truly unique experience.

When will the photos be ready?
Your engagement photos will receive the same attention to detail and three-stage processing as your wedding photos and are typically ready within 2-3 weeks.  From that point, you can choose which images you'd like to use for your invitations, thank you cards, canvas enlargements, modern gallery block, etc.

Quick TIP: Schedule your hair and makeup trial on the same day as your engagement shoot. This will not only allow you to see how your hair & makeup will look in pictures, but it also allows you to make changes for your wedding day if needed.
